Change the domain holder: a transfer is more than an invoice: overview showing Current holder, Agreement, New holder

The invoice recipient and registered holder may differ. A sale or organisational handover requires the registration itself to be updated.

Check the existing registration

Verify the current holder and reachable contacts through the provider. The current holder should be able to approve the change. Companies may need evidence that the person requesting it is authorised.

Separate holder change, payment and technology

Record the exact domain, recipient and handover conditions. Payment between parties differs from the registry update. Specify separately whether website files, mailboxes or other rights are included.

Verify the new setup

After completion, verify holder details, contact email and account access. A holder change and registrar transfer are distinct operations. Ask the provider how to coordinate them and preserve the confirmations.

Your practical checklist

  • Check the current holder.
  • Record the agreement.
  • Handle website and mail separately.
  • Keep the updated registration confirmation.
In practice
Changing the billing address to a foundation is insufficient if the founder remains the registered holder.
