Register a .nl domain: from idea to your own address: overview showing Choose name, Enter details, Registry approval

A .nl domain gives your business or project a lasting online address. You can register the name before building a website. This guide explains the choices, required details and steps after ordering.

Start with the name and purpose

Define the audience and purpose before comparing names. Say the name aloud and ask someone to spell it. An available domain does not prove you have permission to use a trademark. Entering a name without an extension starts our search with .nl.

Choose the correct holder

The holder should be the actual person or organisation responsible for the domain. A developer can manage technical work without becoming the holder. Use an email address that already works, rather than one on the domain you have yet to configure.

Review the term and complete the request

Registration is €9.99 for the first service year and renewal is €12.99/year. The three-year prepaid service is €27. Registry periods are processed annually. Select your DNS option, review the holder details and pay. A cart entry does not reserve the domain; the registry must accept the request.

Your practical checklist

  • Check spelling and trademark conflicts.
  • Name the correct individual or company as holder.
  • Prepare a reachable email and street address.
  • Compare the one-year and three-year service.
  • Keep the registration confirmation.
In practice
A new bicycle repair shop can register its short brand name first, connect a website later and add email when it is needed.
