Register a domain for an association or foundation

Keep an association domain independent of one volunteer. Organise holder details, access, email and board handovers.

Register a domain for an association or foundation: overview showing Organisation, Administrator, Handover

Boards and volunteers change, but an association’s domain should remain stable. Make responsibility clear and access transferable.

Start with the organisation

Check the actual registered holder, not just the invoice recipient. Correct inaccurate details through the provider and record who is authorised to approve changes.

Include the domain in handovers

Document the provider, renewal date, payment responsibility, contact email and service connections. Transfer access securely, never through public meeting minutes. Verify notifications after each board change.

Choose a practical email structure

Role-based addresses can support continuity. Decide whether you need a mailbox or forwarding. Our plan is one 15 GB mailbox per selected domain; additional aliases or shared features depend on the connected mail service.

Your practical checklist

  • Verify the registered holder.
  • Define governance and technical roles.
  • Update contacts after board changes.
  • Keep a secure handover document.
In practice
When a website volunteer leaves, the board should still access the domain account. Possessing website files alone is insufficient.
